We are excited to again include Annerley Library in Annerley Junction Fest. There is a great program here with Make and Create, and some amazing Backyard Diversity talks.
Make and create
Drop into the library to get creative with free art and craft activities. Ideal for all ages.
Saturday 12 October 10am-1pm
Science talk: How many species do you live with
Biodiversity scientists sharing a house in Annerley during COVID lockdown conducted a year-long survey to identify their non-human housemates, attempting to find every species on the property. Join Dr Matthew Holden from the University of Queensland for a fun and accessible talk as he shares results, photos, animal facts and anecdotes from the experience, and leaves you with surprising answers about who you share your home and backyard with. Ideal for all ages.
Saturday 12 October 11.30am-12noon *
*Bookings essential.
Science talk: What technologies could help you learn about the nature in your backyard?
Dr Kellie Vella is a local human-computer interaction researcher who wants to know how we can make better technologies and systems for nature care and learning. She conducted a study with local participants in which she supplied them with a novel Internet of Things device (the “Ambient Birdhouse”) and some nature cameras. She’ll share what she found, provide an Ambient Birdhouse for yourself, and lead a discussion about what a local nature network could look like. Ideal for all ages.
Saturday 12 October 12.15-12.45pm*
*Bookings essential.
